About

Since joining VISTA after graduating from college more than thirty years ago I have had the good fortune to work with a wide variety of nonprofit organizations in many different capacities. I have been a consultant, a manager, a policy advocate and a lawyer, among other roles, and have worked with organizations and coalitions in more than twenty states. In addition to my work with nonprofits, several state agencies have contracted with me for a range of services.

In recent years I have been primarily involved in public health policy advocacy. I also have experience with issues such as aging, mental health and special education. I have hired and supervised staff, developed and monitored budgets, written and managed grants, conducted formal complaint investigations and presided over administrative hearings.

Here is a partial list of the nonprofit organizations and state agencies I have worked with:

  • Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
  • The Pew Charitable Trusts
  • American Medical Association
  • American Cancer Society
  • Senior Citizens Law Project (New Hampshire)
  • Legal Assistance for Older Americans (Minnesota)
  • Office of the Long Term Care Ombudsman (Oregon)
  • New Hampshire Division of Elderly and Adult Services
  • New Hampshire Division of Vocational Rehabilitation
  • New Hampshire Department of Education
  • Oregon Department of Education

I have also gained valuable experience as a volunteer, from serving as a board member for an agency providing community-based housing for developmentally disabled adults to being a court-appointed advocate for children in dependency and neglect cases. I have been on task forces addressing issues at local, state and national levels, and presented at conferences on coalition building and grassroots advocacy.
